  • Report on the Illegal Trial of Mr. Ye Zhenghui and Mr. Mao Dexing at Mishan Court in Heilongjiang Province

On January 12, 2007, Mishan City Court in Heilongjiang Province held an illegal trial of two Falun Gong practitioners, Mr. Ye Zhenghui and Mao Dexing from Hulin City. The initial plan was to hold a public trial on the fourth floor of the court; however, when the related personnel discovered the presence of many strangers they held a secret trial instead. In addition, the trial location was moved to the first floor (basement).

Around 9:00 a.m. one of two bailiffs pushed the two handcuffed practitioners into the basement separately. The presiding judge was the judge of the criminal court, Zhao Yuechao. The judge was Zhang Ying, and the juror was Jin Qiang.

In the middle of the first row sat five heads of the 610 Office and court officials. The family members sitting in the second and third rows numbered 13. The two bailiffs had closely paid attention to every detail of the families sitting in the public gallery.

When the judge asked Mr. Ye Zhenghui if the public prosecutor’s statement was true, Mr. Ye replied that Jixi City National Protection Team agents had extorted a confession from him via torture. They had deprived him of sleep for seven days. They had otherwise abused and beaten him by putting an electric baton into his mouth and shocking him, and shocking his genital areas and other sensitive areas with electric batons. In addition, they pinched his acupuncture points and blade bone and his wrists were bleeding from being handcuffed. They used torture to force him to confess to whatever was dictated to him. When Mr. Ye Zhenghui was asked if he was injured he replied, "Yes." And then he showed everyone the injured areas.

The CCP personnel asked, "Do you know that the Chinese regime has forbidden Falun Gong?" Mr. Ye Zhenghui replied, "Falun Gong is righteous. It benefits people’s bodies, and I am innocent." The presiding judge interrupted him crudely and asked why he insisted on practicing. Mr. Ye replied that he just wanted to be healthy and fit, and to be a good person. His words were interrupted again.

The presiding judge had been breaking the law during his executing the law, and he declared that Mr. Ye Zhenghui was guilty. The counsel for the defense said that according to the law, there is insufficient evidence and that Mr. Ye should be declared innocent and released. The judge kept silent. Just a moment later the judge declared that after court deliberations they would announce an additional trial date.

Many pieces of surveillance equipment had been installed in high places in and around the building. Nevertheless, a lot of people came to audit the illegal trial. When the "610 Office" head Yu Xiaofeng saw several familiar faces he immediately called Gao Pengfei and Li Gang to drive these people out of the court.

Mr. Wang Xiaoping Tortured in Ganshan Psychiatric Hospital in Luzhou City, Sichuan Province

Mr. Wang Xiaoping, a Falun Gong practitioner from Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, has been tortured many times because of his belief in Falun Gong. Currently, he is being detained at the Ganshan Psychiatric Hospital in Luzhou City, where he is forcibly given drugs and injections, and he is tortured both mentally and physically.

Mr. Wang Xiaoping, 36, lives in Shuikou Town, Gulin County, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1998. In January 2001, he planned to go to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. Chen Xuda, Wang Youyuan and two other thugs from Shuikou Town tracked him down and arrested him at the West Railroad Station in Beijing. They then took Mr. Wang with them to Tiananmen Square at the precise moment when the staged "Tiananmen Square Self Immolation Incident" was taking place.

Mr. Wang was then taken to Gulin County and confined in the Gulin Detention Center. When Mr. Wang saw the news about the "Tiananmen Square Self Immolation Incident" on television in the detention center, he realized the incident was staged to deceive the general public and instigate hatred toward Falun Gong. On March 15, police officers from Gulin County paraded detained Falun Gong practitioners through the streets to humiliate them. Mr. Wang took the opportunity to tell onlookers that the "Tiananmen Square Self Immolation Incident" was staged.

The police took Mr. Wang back to detention center and beat him mercilessly, but Mr. Wang insisted on speaking the truth. Later Mr. Wang was sentenced to a year and a half in a forced labor camp. He was detained in Xinhua Forced Labor Camp in Sichuan Province for 19 months (one month beyond his term). After being released, he went to Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province to find work. Xia Guoqing, the former party secretary of the Shuikou Township Communist Party Committee, followed Mr. Wang to Guangzhou City. Xia was dismissed from his post because Mr. Wang had gone to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Xia also brought his wife to Guangzhou at the public's expense. Wherever Mr. Wang went, Xia Guoqing followed and joined with local police to harass Mr. Wang. Finally, Mr. Wang was forced to return to his hometown.

Zhong Shaoyan, party secretary of the Shuikou Township Communist Party Committee and former deputy director of the 610 Office, assigned Wang Youyuan, Mr. Wang Xiaoping's brother, to monitor him. Zhong threatened that if Mr. Wang Xiaoping went to Beijing again, his brother Wang Youyuan would lose his job, and he would impound Mr. Wang's father's retirement pension. Zhong also tried to force Mr. Wang Xiaoping to give up his Falun Gong practice but Mr. Wang refused. In October 2005, Shuikou Township officials arrested Mr. Wang and detained him in the Ganshan Psychiatric Hospital in Luzhou City, where Mr. Wang was forcibly given drugs and injections designed to treat psychiatric patients. In addition, Mr. Wang was forced to pay two or three thousand yuan per month for this so-called treatment. The cost has reached tens of thousands of yuan by now. The torture has devastated Mr. Wang's physical and mental health.

Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested; Changchun City Police Perform Farce before the 6th Asian Winter Games

With the excuse of "protecting" the 6th Asian Winter Games, the Changchun Police have illegally arrested more than fifty Falun Gong practitioners within a week. Several hundred practitioners have been placed under house arrest, and the police department and other agencies have more than a thousand others under surveillance.

On the morning of January 28, before the kick-off of the games, Hu Jintao visited the "Euro-Asian Market" in the southwestern suburb of Changchun. In order to please Hu and cover up price gouging, large scale lay-offs and the complaints and appeals of local citizens, members of the Changchun Party Committee forced market business owners to pretend to conduct "business-as-usual," and they recruited three thousand police officers to act as patrons in order to complete the ruse.

Officers from the Chaoyang Police Department pretended to patronize a deli booth when Hu passed by, and officers from other stations did the same at other booths. Office staff members from the Changchun City Police Department pretended to buy from different market booths, and other officers played different parts.

Deputy Secretary Li Shuguo of the Changchun City CCP Committee claimed at a security meeting on January 27, "If any Falun Gong practitioners or anyone else who wants to appeal attempts to approach the area, they are to be fined or punished more than usual. No punishment is too harsh, and I will take full responsibility."

He added, "Anyone who tells Hu and his staff that police officers are playing the role of patrons in the market will also be punished severely," and, "All the officers who impersonate buyers must memorize lines so they can speak smoothly, they must not make mistakes."

The lines are like: If Hu asked whether the living the cost is too high to bear, the answer should be the living cost in Changchun has been stable and the society has been stable. If Hu asked about monthly income, the answer should be between 1,200 and 1,500 yuan. In addition, police officers are encouraged to say more words to praise the CCP's rule.

Tianshui Prison in Gansu Province Utilizes Criminals to Torture Falun Gong Practitioners

Tianshui Prison in Gansu Province utilizes criminal convicts to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Practitioner Mr. Liu Zhirong, who was illegally imprisoned in the First Prison District, was often severely beaten by inmates. Criminal inmates bound his arms and legs before they went to work and stuck him under a bed. Then they released him when they returned from work. Mr. Liu has been tortured to death, and his body bears a wound under one ear caused by beating.

Practitioner Xu Feng, who is illegally imprisoned at the Fourth Prison District, was transferred to the new prison building in October. At first he was in a patient ward that holds 18 people. Twenty days later, he was transferred to a confinement room with four inmates assigned to "sandwich" him. No one else is allowed to enter or exit the room, and he has been denied all free time and contact with others. He has been followed and watched, even in the restroom and while he sleeps at night. The four that sandwich him are: Du (surname), who is a chief member of a black society in Lanzhou City; the second is a murderer, Zhao (surname), from Lanzhou; the third is a thief of ancient tombs; the fourth is a robber, Yao (surname). Their prison terms are two for life, one for 20 years and one for 16 years respectively. Each of the four inmates has helped police try to "transform" more than two practitioners. They use violence, and their tricks are hidden and cunning. For a single "transformation," each inmate is rewarded 40 transformational points as well as being praised and recognized for merit. Doing forced labor for one month earns one only 10 points.

It is this kind of criminal convict that the police make use of to torture practitioners. For example, Zhao has been used to torture practitioners ever since he came into the prison. With his life sentence unchanged, he is supposed to be under strict control. However, he is assigned to torture practitioners because he has money to bribe the prison officials.

Ms. Gu Zhengfen from Sichuan Province Sentenced to Five Years in Prison in Yunnan Province

Ms. Gu Zhengfen is a Falun Gong practitioner who lived at a dormitory for Qinglongchang Railroad employees. Because she steadfastly follows her belief, she was illegally sentenced to five years in prison by the Ruili City People's Court in Yunnan Province.

Ms. Gu was an employee of the Rubber Factory at Wanding Economic Development District, Ruili City, Yunnan Province. For a long time, she was in close contact with chemicals because of her work. As a result, she had many illnesses. After searching for cures everywhere, she was still ill. However, after she started to practice Falun Gong, all her illnesses disappeared.

Since the CCP started persecuting Falun Gong, Ms. Gu persisted in her belief in Falun Gong and "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance." As a result, she was persecuted many times. Between 2000 and 2003, she was illegally detained twice and sent to a forced labor camp for over a year. While at the detention center, she was brutally beaten by police. Several of her front teeth were knocked out, and her mouth was taped shut. Even other detainees couldn't help but cry for her. In May 2001, at the Ningxiajie Detention Center, a police officer grabbed her neck from behind and smashed her head against the wall several times. As a result, she had problems speaking for several days and carried scars on her face and around her eyes.

She wrote a letter to her employer to clarify the truth, and later her home was broken into on the morning of February 28, 2004. The perpetrators included Director Yu of the Residential Committee, Ruili City Police Bureau police, Chenghuao District police, and Zhang Fuming from the Qinglongchang Community Office. They ransacked Ms. Gu's home and took away Falun Gong books and some truth-clarifying materials. Mr. Gu resisted with righteous thoughts. She shouted, "Falun Gong is good!" Several police officers pushed her into the police vehicle and took her to a detention center. Ms. Gu was detained there for six months. She was sentenced to five years in prison in January 2005. Ms. Gu is currently incarcerated at Linjiayuan Prison of Xiaojiao, Kunming City, Yunnan Province.

Ms. Guo Zhiping Arrested by Jiannan Police Station in Baoding City, Hebei Province

At around 9:00 a.m. on December 18, 2006, under the orders of Director of the Xinshi District Police Department in Baoding City Yang Dongchuan, Head of the Jiannan Police Station in Baoding City Huang Xinzhai led about 10 policemen to break into Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Guo Zhiping's home in the residential compound of a steel factory on Fuchang Road.

At that time, Ms. Guo Zhiping was at home alone. Her neighbors were also not at home. The police arrested her and searched her home. They took away two computers, one laptop, two printers (one laser and the other ink jet), truth-clarification CDs, and other valuables. They also took away 1600 yuan in cash that Guo Zhiping had saved for her child's college tuition.

The police had been monitoring Guo Zhiping's cellphone for a long time before they arrested her. When they heard that someone was going to her home to fix a computer, they thought they would find their "evidence", so they employed their customary tactics of arresting first and then getting evidence. The police took Ms. Guo to the Jiannan Police Station and then transferred her to the Baoding City Detention Center. Before the New Year, they secretly sent her to the Baoding Forced Labor Camp in Baolizhuang.

Ms. Guo Zhiping's family did not know of her arrest at all. They asked about her whereabouts but did not get any information.

Ms. Guo Zhiping was a worker at the Baoding City's Steel Factory. Before practicing Falun Gong, she suffered from many diseases including breast tumors, heart disease, and neurasthenia. After she started to practice Falun Gong on March 1999, all of her illnesses disappeared and she benefited both mentally and physically. After Jiang Zemin's regime started to persecute Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Ms. Gong went to Beijing to appeal. She wanted to appeal to the relevant departments to share her situation and the benefits she had gained both mentally and physically. After she came back, she was detained in a detention center for two weeks.

At the end of 1999, Ms. Guo went to Beijing again to appeal for Falun Gong. The Baoding Liaison Office in Beijing and the Jiannan Police Station in Baoding City arrested her in Beijing and sent her to the Baoding Detention Center. She was detained there for one month. After this the police often went to her home to harass her, and she was forced to become homeless and destitute in July 2001. She could not go home for about three months. During the past few years, the police have kept on harassing her and have brought much mental and physical harm to her family.

After she was laid off, her family had a tough life. Ms. Guo Zhiping's parents, in their 80s, could not take care of themselves. Her husband works, but his salary is not enough to cover her child's college tuition. The whole family seldom stays together. Two days before she was arrested, her husband had just come home from the south of China for a reunion with his family on New Year's Day. He did not expect his home to be robbed and his wife arrested. Ms. Guo's mother missed her very much and spoke of her many times every day. Before her arrest, Ms. Guo and her sisters usually took turns to take care of their mother. Now Ms. Guo Zhiping is detained, and her family is worried that her parents cannot cope with the news of her arrest. They have kept the news from them.
