Practitioner Ms. Ma Yuying, 60, was a retired worker from Zhucheng City, Shandong Province. She went to Beijing to appeal in 2000. The local police accused her of "organizing a group appeal." She was abducted and taken to the Zhucheng City Foreign Trade Company's auditorium where she was handcuffed and abused. They videotaped the "public criticizing episode" and repeatedly broadcast it on the Zhucheng City TV station, which caused great psychological damage to her family. She was then held for 40 days, and released after the perpetrators extorted 8,000 yuan from her family. The police continued to monitor and harass her. She passed away in April 2003.
