Case Description:

Wu Mingfang, female, 36 years old, was a Dafa practitioner from Suizhou City, Hubei Province.

Prior to practicing Falun Gong, Wu Mingfang suffered from skin cancer. In 1998, after being introduced to Dafa by a friend, she started cultivation and quickly regained her health. On July 20, 1999, Jiang ordered the ban of Falun Gong and the brutal persecution of Dafa began. For the past several years, in order to clarify the truth and expose the evil's lies, Wu Mingfang regularly distributed truth-clarifying materials. Orders from the "610 Office" and police department deceived the public and coerced them to report Falun Gong practitioners by promising monetary rewards on T.V, in newspapers and at public meetings. People who did not know the truth reported several practitioners, including Wu Mingfang, which resulted in their arrests.

On April 20, 2002, Wu Mingfang was reported and arrested while distributing truth- clarifying materials in the Junchuan area. She was sent to Suizhou City No. 2 Detention Center, detained for 15 days, and released. On May 7, someone reported her for putting up a banner on Longmen Street and she was again sent to the No. 2 Detention Center. During her detention, Wu Mingfang held a hunger strike along with other practitioners to resist the evil persecution. Seven days later, after over a dozen officials from the provincial and city police departments, the detention center and the "610 Office" examined her, she and two other practitioners were released. Only after these officials confirmed that Wu Mingfang was on the verge of death did they decide to release her in order to avoid responsibility. Wu Mingfang became unconscious the day she returned home and she was in extremely critical condition. Her family took her to a hospital, but she passed away on the morning of July 18.
