She was arrested and sent to Zhaoyang City's liaison office in Beijing. At night, Liu Zhilan used her wisdom to escape. Five or six policemen from the Liabei police station went to Liu Zihlan's home, looking for her. Liu Zihlan's brother told them that Liu had not come home. The policemen cursed her brother. Liu's brother said, "Get out of here!" The policemen, annoyed by his response, handcuffed Liu's brother to take him away. When they brutally pushed and pulled him to get him into the car, they threw him against the car door and broke three of his ribs. Liu's mother, who saw what happened, passed out on the spot. Liu's brother did not recover until a month later.

Case 2: Kidnapped Immediately after Being Released from Masanjia

Dafa practitioner Zhu Yanli, 37, lives in Foyidong Village, Lingyuan City. The police from the Foyidong police station came to her home on the night of November 25, 1999, woke her up and arrested her. Because Zhu Yanli persisted in practicing Falun Gong, she was illegally sentenced to 2 years of forced labor and sent to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. She was held for an additional month after her 2-year term was up because she had lost contact with her family. The guards at Masanjia called her village. On December 26, 2001, Zhu Yanli's husband and Tao Quoyi, the police chief from the Foyidong police station, came for her and took her home.

Zhu Yanli's husband was very grateful to Tao Quoyi because he showed up and took his wife home. Zhu's husband paid for all of the expenses of food and boarding for the whole trip. On their way home, Chief Tao told practitioner Zhu, "Go home and rest for a few days. In a few days I'll send you to a brainwashing class to study." However, as soon as she got off the train, Tao said, "Go and report to the Public Security Office now." He told Zhu's husband, "We'll let her go home in 3 to 4 days." Thus, Tao deceived her into going to the No. 1 detention center of Lingyuan City. When she checked in for detention, Zhu realized she had been deceived. There was no study class. There were only people who had been arrested and detained. Zhu was thus detained without any legal procedure.

On the 2nd day, a guard wanted to take Zhu's picture. Zhu replied, "I didn't break any law. I won't have my picture taken." After a while, the guard came with some criminal cellmates to drag her to have her picture taken. Zhu resolutely refused to cooperate. A guard named Lu rolled up his sleeves, grabbed Zhu by the arm, and dragged her away. He forced her to sit on a chair with her hands cuffed and her feet shackled to the two legs of the chair, in order to have her picture taken against her will. Her clothes were torn, buttons were sent flying, and her shoes were kicked away.

Case 3:

In July and August of 2001, in Liabei Village of Lingyuan City, the whole village was terrified. The police went to each home and harassed every practitioner. They arrested practitioners at random. The whole neighborhood was in turmoil.

Li Zhuming, female, 45, is a practitioner from East Lingbeimiao Village. For the past year, she did not dare to come home, for fear of being arrested and tortured. She traveled from one place to another in hiding. The local policemen visited her home to look for her every 2 to 3 days. Her family was greatly disturbed and could not lead a normal life. With no other choice available to her, she stayed in a shed in a remote mountain far away from her home. As she could not go home, she endured tremendous hardship. When, in August of 2001, she went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong, she was arrested and sent back home. She was detained for 2 days and 2 nights by the Lingbei Village police station. A female chief of the town punched and kicked her. The severity of the beating made her lose consciousness. Because Li's husband had failed to report her whereabouts, both them were taken to the No. 2 detention center.

Case 4

Tan Shuhua, a practitioner from East Lingbeimiao Village, returned home safely after going to Beijing to validate Dafa in August of 2001. After policemen from the Lingbei police station found out about it, they started harassing her constantly. As a result, Tan was not able to live a normal life. On February 4, 2002, while she was home sweeping the kitchen floor, policemen from the Lingbei police station jumped over the fence into her yard to arrest her. Tan's husband opened the door and eight men walked in to force Tan to go with them. They pulled and pushed her, and kidnapped her from her home. Her two children were left at home, one 11, and the other 8, with no mother to look after them.

Case 5

Dafa practitioner Yu Zhiming was an employee at the Lingyuan Steel Cooperative. She steadfastly refused to cooporate when she was put in a brainwashing class held by the company, so they fired her from her job. On September 1, 2001, she was arrested for posting Dafa materials near Lingying. At the Lingyuan police station, policemen tied her to the bed for 5 days and 4 nights. They forbade her to sleep and demanded that she tell them the sources of the Dafa materials. She resolutely refused to cooporate with their request. They then went to her home looking for books and materials. When they saw in a bank deposit book that she had 15,000 Yuan (the income for an average urban worker is 500 Yuan), they stole it.

Case 6

Bai Yanli, 61, lives at the Xiangdong Chemical Engineering Factory, Lingyuan City. She was arrested at home for distributing Dafa materials. The perpetrators shackled her and took her to the Xiangdong Chemical Engineering Factory for identification. They refused to give her any food for the whole day. In just one day, this elderly woman was badly tortured and lost a considerable amount of weight.

Case 7

Sun Ying, 67, of the Xiangdong Chemical Engineering Factory, Lingyuan City, was suffering from an advanced stage of cancer before she started practicing Falun Gong. After practicing Falun Dafa, her cancer was cured and she was given a second life. Whenever Dafa was being slandered or falsely accused, Sun Ying told her own story. She clarified the truth and distributed flyers. Despite her old age and the dark roads, she worked proficiently as a force for Fa-rectification. Last year, Sun was arrested several times and illegally held in detention centers for months. This year, she wrote the words "Falun Dafa is the righteous Fa" on her house. She was arrested on September 11, 2001, for posting Dafa materials. The City Court of Lingyuan City gave her a 4 year sentence. The arrest of Sun brought misery to her family. Her husband, 70, suffers from cerebral thrombosis and her 7 year old grandson is now left unattended. Her husband needs a caretaker and her grandson has no one to look after him. Thus, the persecution has resulted in another broken family.

Case 8

On October 20, 2001, Guo Qiaomei, an employee of the control department of the Lingyuan Steel cooperative, was chatting with her supervisor Zheng Chunyuan (a Dafa practitioner), when the Public Security Division of the company came to arrest Zheng. Because Guo was at the scene, they asked her if she practiced Falun Gong. Guo replied, "Yes." Guo Qiaomei was arrested on the spot for no valid reason. Her arrest brought extreme misery to her family. Her little daughter, who is only 2 years old, cries for her mother every day. Her husband had lost his job long ago, so the Guo's arrest made her family lose their only source of income. Every day her husband stays home with their daughter with tears in his eyes.

Case 9

On the night of October 21, 2001, the Public Security Division of the Lingyuan Steel Cooperative arrested Dafa practitioner, Hou Yanshuang, an employee of the company. The policemen ransacked his house and openly stole 97,000 Yuan from his home. In addition, they confiscated a deed for another house. They also stole computers, fax machines, and appliances, which totaled 70,000 Yuan in value.

Hao was taken to the Public Security Division of the company and interrogated by policemen for 2 days and 2 nights without being allowed to sleep. On the third day, he was transferred to the City Police Station for interrogation. There the police tortured him inhumanely, yet Hao steadfastly refused to cooperate. The policemen brutally whipped him with plastic batons and put heavy shackles on him. He was punished by being forced to do "half squats" [Squatting down with legs apart and both arms raised forward parallel to the ground] and full squats, for long periods without being allowed to move. Each interrogation was like that. His clothes were always wet from sweating profusely. His robust body gradually became gaunt. The policemen continued torturing him for 8 days.

One time, the Public Security Division of the company interrogated him. Because he did not cooperate, he was put in heavy shackles again for 15 days. In the detention center, when he was on his way to another interrogation session, he waved to Dafa practitioners who were kept in other cells. The chief of the detention center saw this, and gave him two heavy slaps in the face. He hands were then cuffed behind his back, and his feet were put in shackles. They tortured him severely. He was shackled for 39 days and nights in the No. 2 detention center of Lingyuan City.

When he was being interrogated, Hao asked the chief of the Division, whose last name is Yang, "What right do you have to confiscate my personal property?" They were speechless and would not touch this issue. They only interrogated him about his sources of Dafa materials. In order to do Dafa work, he had almost exhausted all his financial resources [which includes the money actually spent for Dafa work and money that was illegally taken by the police]. His wife was forced to become homeless to avoid persecution. Their 13-year-old son is looking forward to the time when his parents can come home.
