It has been learned that Dafa practitioner Bai Yuzhi has been on a hunger strike for nearly 4 months and she is now in a critical condition.

On the night of August 25, 2002, Ms. Bai was arrested by Shijiazhuang City "610 Office" (an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems) and she has been firmly resisting the evil since then. While she was detained, the police tortured her in order to extort a confession. Later she was transferred to various places. Since she was on the verge of death, neither detention centers nor labor camps would accept her. Finally the "610 Office" forcibly detained her in Team Five of the Shijiazhuang Labor Camp. During this period, they even put her on a secret trial without notifying any of her family members.

Around January 6, 2003, Bai Yuzhi was transferred to the Shijiazhuang City Second Detention Center to be further persecuted. She has been on a hunger strike since then. Recently Shijiazhuang City Intermediate People's Court (under the direct control of the "610 Office" and many Dafa practitioners were tried here) illegally sentenced her to fouryears in prison, totally disregarding the fact that she is in critical condition. Her family members requested she be released on medical parole and the court replied that it depends on the detention center.

Now that Bai Yizhi is near death, the detention center director Du Laixi still attempts to detain her for an indefinite term.
