The University of the Western Cape (UWC), located in the museum district, north of Cape Town, was founded over 50 years ago. Though the school history is not long, its initial stage and its background were of great importance, as it was witness to the transition from apartheid to non-apartheid in South Africa.

Students from many different countries came to see the art exhibition. They responded enthusiastically to the art works, and praised highly the artists' superb skills. The works of the "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" art exhibition were created by a group of artists from different backgrounds who have accomplished outstanding artistic achievements. These artists have obtained improvements in both their physical and mental realms. They have also been touched in the spiritual realm, as they have upgraded their moral character through practicing Falun Dafa. Their understanding of life and their experience, through traditional painting skills, embody brightness, pure righteousness and compassion. The paintings express a timeless yearning for an ideal that exists between man and heaven, which is a realm of harmony. The artists also used their artistic techniques to depict brutal persecution imposed upon Falun Dafa practitioners in Mainland China over the past eight years, and manifest the uncompromising spirit and nobility of the group of practitioners who defend the principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance."

When the students at the UWC looked at the exhibited works, they were surprised by the persecution and torture of Falun Dafa practitioners which is inflicted upon them by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Some of them commented: "It's hard to imagine there is still such a thing happening in today's China?!" Some asked: "Why can such persecution take place in China today?" Practitioners explained that the CCP's evil nature determines that it can not tolerate more than 100 million people believing in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." After listening to the practitioners' explanation, the students expressed their sympathy and signed the petition to support practitioners' efforts to oppose the violent and cruel persecution.
