(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhang Xiaojie is a lecturer at the Technical College in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. She was arrested on June 10, 2013, by the Domestic Security Division from the Haigang Police Department. Her home was ransacked. She has been detained at the First Detention Center in Qinhuangdao city.

Her lawyer visited her in the detention center on the morning of November 6. The police attempted to terminate the meeting at 11 a.m. The lawyer asked the police to give them ten more minutes since there were still several questions Ms. Zhang needed to answer.

The police officer on duty yelled at the lawyer and Ms. Zhang, and started to drag her away. The lawyer shouted, “Do not touch my client! She has rights! You dare to do this when I am present. I cannot guarantee that she will be safe when I am not present.”

The officer yelled back, “I am taking her to lunch! It is good for her.” The lawyer said, “You must ask her if she would like to go to lunch or continue the meeting. That is her right and she must make her own choice. The detention center must guarantee the safety of the detainees. I witnessed you treating her like this. I don't know if you would really allow her to have lunch after she goes back.”

The lawyer argued with the police officer, and was able to meet with Ms. Zhang for more than ten minutes. Ms. Zhang shared more details about what had happened while in detention.

Right after she arrived at the detention center, other prisoners forced her to take a cold shower. Officer Hu Wei attacked her with pepper spray, forced her to wear a prison uniform, and slapped her because she did not greet him.

After the meeting, the lawyer complained about the physical abuse to Li, the director of the detention center, and also mentioned the unreasonable behavior of the officer during the meeting. Director Li claimed that they would investigate. The lawyer and Ms. Zhang's family are awaiting the results.
