(Minghui.org) A former Nanchong City official was arrested on September 28 at the Sichuan Province Justice Bureau while she was filling a grievance to protest the persecution she suffered as a Falun Gong practitioner. This upstanding civil servant is currently illegally detained at the Nanchong City Detention Center.
Ms. Zhang Linyue (张林悦), 51, worked in the Finance Department of Shunqing District, Nanchong City. She held various positions in the Nanchong city government, including deputy director of the Xicheng Community Office, deputy director of the Finance Bureau, and member of the Nanchong City CPPCC (Political Consultative Conference).

Arrested for Purchasing Shen Yun Tickets
In February 2011, Ms. Zhang was arrested for purchasing tickets to see Shen Yun performances in Hong Kong. The police illegally searched her workplace and home, and confiscated her daughter's computer.
Ms. Zhang was interrogated and sent to the Huafeng Detention Center in Nanchong City. During the interrogation, in an attempt to force her to give information about other Falun Gong practitioners, the police threatened Ms. Zhang with a prison term and threatened her and her family with termination from their jobs.
Later, the authorities stopped paying her salary and tried to freeze her bank accounts. A month later, the Shunqing District Procurator's Office approved Ms. Zhang's arrest.
Ms. Zhang was detained at the Huafeng Detention Center from February to September of 2011. During her incarceration, she was subjected to inhuman treatment, including being strip searched, forced to take cold showers, and forced to sleep on a wooden board. Her weight dropped from 100 pounds to 77 pounds. She was under extreme stress, couldn't eat or sleep and frequently had diarrhea. With her family and friends' help, Ms. Zhang was released on bail on September 11, 2011.
However, Ms. Zhang received a notice from the Shunqing District Court three days later notifying her that her trial would take place on October 11, 2011. In order to avoid further arrest and persecution, Ms. Zhang left home and moved from place to place.
Falun Gong Changed Her Life
Ms. Zhang started practicing Falun Gong in 1997. Prior to that, she suffered many illnesses including tuberculosis and chronic gastroenteritis. All her illnesses disappeared a year after she began practicing Falun Gong and following the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.
Falun Gong changed Ms. Zhang for better. “I used to be a selfish, doubtful, and irritable person, but I became kind and sincere and maintained a high moral standard. I no longer fought for fame or money and I worked diligently.” Others noticed her improvements as well: “I was highly praised for my good work,” added Ms. Zhang.
However, when the persecution started in 1999, Ms. Zhang became a target. She was arrested in May 2000 and illegally detained for 29 days. She lost her position as deputy director of the Xicheng Community Office and her membership in the Nanchong City CPPCC.
