Dafa Disciples Should Be Alert to Pollution from Modern Culture

January 14, 2015 |

(Minghui.org) I am a young practitioner and have recently enlightened that as my mind continues to be influenced by the deviated modern culture, my cultivation is hindered as a result.

I used to believe that I needed to keep up with what's going on in society so that I could engage non-practitioners in everyday conversation before I started to talk to them about Falun Gong. So I often visited various websites and social networks in order to learn what they might be interested in.

Later, I realized that this is the not the right way to clarify the truth. Saving people does not require befriending them. It requires our righteous thoughts. It may help if we hold some knowledge about everyday happenings in society, but a cultivator should be careful about how much time he or she allots to it. This, I believe, is a reflection of one's cultivation status.

I went too far under the guidance of my wrong understanding. Although I carefully avoided sex and violence on the Internet, a lot of low level things and Party culture still entered my energy field.

Moreover, the modern culture gradually influenced my mind, making it deviate from traditional culture. As a consequence, I pursued comfort, treated some daily affairs in a cynical way, did not want to be responsible, adopted careless methods of speech, and dealt with other people with bad manners and disrespect.

I want to remind fellow practitioners, especially the young ones, that we must pay attention to the potential to be polluted by so-called modern and Party culture. We need to read the Fa more to purify ourselves. We need to know more about the traditional cultivation culture and rectify ourselves. We must be responsible to our own cultivation.

I suggest that we limit our casual browsing of the Internet as much as possible, and watch as little TV and as few movies as possible. When we read non-Dafa books, we should learn a little about the author's background and be aware that their words carry their things, and that their books may thus pollute us too.
