(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Ying, an elementary school teacher from Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia, was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison on November 26, 2014. She appealed to the intermediate court on December 1, but the original verdict was upheld.
Ms. Wang has been on a hunger strike for 171 days to protest the persecution, and is in critical condition.
Appeal Letter
Ms. Wang's attorney appealed for a reversal of the Ke District Court's ruling and to clear her of all charges.
He pointed out, “The facts presented in court weren't clear, and the judge ignored the fact that the evidence used against Ms. Wang was irrelevant to the charges. The court's decision to sentence Ms. Wang to prison had no legal basis and violated the law. The higher court should reverse such a ruling.”
Background
Ms. Wang was accused of practicing and spreading information about Falun Gong. She was arrested on July 26, 2014, while visiting another practitioner at his home.
She was taken to the Tongliao City Detention Center. More than 10 guards and inmates beat her, causing knots on her head, her teeth to be knocked loose, and her face to be disfigured. Ms. Wang then went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.
The guards cuffed Ms. Wang to a torture device for 57 days during her hunger strike. Her feet were shackled, and her hands were cuffed behind her back to a wooden board. She could only sit up and was unable to lie down. Her joints and muscles were severely injured as a result. During this time, she was also forced-fed every day.
