(Minghui.org) Ms. Liu Qingxiang, 59, was illegally tried on February 12, 2015, for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. The proceedings were adjourned without a verdict.

Afterwards, her family made repeated visits to the courthouse to demand her release. The presiding judge, Sun Di, eventually informed them that "other departments" would be involved in arriving at a decision.

The trial was held in the Qinghe District Court on February 12, 2015. A large number of police and plainclothes officers monitored passersby and prevented family members from attending.

Ms. Liu's lawyer argued that it is a constitutional right to practice Falun Gong and to tell others about it. He rejected the "evidence" for convicting Ms. Liu, which was the fact that she had been subjected to forced labor more than once. A person's history of persecution, he contended, shouldn't be used to justify further persecution.

Officers from the Tieling City 610 Office were present at the trial, and the gallery was packed with pre-arranged attendees—a tactic often used by the Chinese judicial system to make it appear that a hearing is "public."

The lawyer asked, “Since this is a public hearing, why don't I see Ms. Liu's younger brother?” The judge didn't respond.

Ms. Liu has been held in Tieling City Detention Center since she was arrested on November 1, 2014.

Ms. Liu was previously imprisoned in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in November 1999 and tortured to mental collapse. In March 2002 she was sentenced to five years in prison for talking to a taxi driver about the persecution of Falun Gong.
