(Minghui.org) Wei Danquan, a former military officer at Shanhaiguan Airport, was repeatedly imprisoned, beaten, and tortured for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. In prison, developed tuberculosis, heart disease, and pleurisy.

He has filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former Communist Party leader who initiated the brutal persecution of Falun Gong.

Repeated Abuse in State Custody

A month before the persecution began on July 20, 1999, Mr. Wei published an article on how he benefited from practicing Falun Gong. A few days later, military superiors detained him for seven days, released him, and then arrested him again the next day.

A group of military officers asked him on July 20 if he would still practice Falun Gong. When he answered yes, they revoked his Communist Party membership and detained him in a cell, where he was guarded by eight people in the sweltering summer heat.

At first, he was not allowed to use the restroom. After 15 days, he was moved to a larger room and closely monitored.

His superiors asked him in December 1999, after he returned to Shanhaiguan, to choose between changing jobs or being discharged from the military.

Although he was released from custody, he was monitored around the clock and discharged on May 1, 2000.

Throughout the years, he was arrested numerous times and taken to detention centers and prisons for refusing to renounce his faith. He was brutally beaten and force-fed after going on a hunger strike. As a result, he developed tuberculosis.

His condition worsened as he was detained again and again. He developed heart disease and passed out multiple times a day from the torture. He was released only on the verge of death or when his tuberculosis recurred.

In addition, police ransacked his home and confiscated his computer, camera, satellite receiver, and sewing machine. His property was never returned.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
