(Minghui.org) After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched the brutal persecution of Falun Dafa, and the police destroyed our means of obtaining Dafa books and materials, practitioners from other cities helped me set up a materials production site in our local area.

I was so preoccupied with materials production and distribution that I slacked off on my cultivation. I was arrested by the police in May 2003.

I was beaten black and blue, and my face was deformed. When I was sent to a local detention center, all the people in my cell were scared upon seeing the bruises all over my body. They thought I must have fought someone.

I explained that the police had beaten me for practicing Falun Dafa. “He must be a really disgraceful person!” some of the inmates said. “Shame on him!”

Distraught Mother

That night in the cell, a woman in her forties was crying in her bed. She looked so sad and distraught.

She told me that she and her 14-year-old daughter had lived in a slum, and they applied for government relief in order to make ends meet. Unfortunately, the money given to them was stolen by local government officials. She went to the government office every day in the hopes of getting her money back, but in the end she was sent to the detention center on charges of disrupting public service.

She was very worried about her young daughter, who was left alone and helpless at home.

I discussed with her that we were living in a dark and troubled world, and how the CCP bred its corrupt officials to not care about people’s wellbeing.

I told her I was a Falun Dafa practitioner, and how I was cruelly abused for being a good person, following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. I showed her the bruises all over my body. I also said, “There are tens of thousands of Falun Dafa practitioners who have experienced even worse persecution from the CCP.”

After hearing my words, she finally stopped crying. I asked her to keep in mind the words “Falun Dafa is good. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.”

Young Woman with a Broken Arm

I noticed a young woman with a bandaged arm. She was having difficulty grooming herself, so I offered to help comb her hair, wash her face, and launder her clothes every day.

She was moved to tears. “You're really a good person,” she said. “Even my own sister was never so kind to me.”

Middle-aged Woman on the Verge of Breakdown

The atmosphere in the room became tense at times, when a certain middle-aged woman made loud and angry noises.

I found out that she had been charged with attempting to conceal a murder committed by her daughter and son-in-law. Her daughter and son-in-law had been sentenced to death. This lady was on the verge of a breakdown.

I tried to help her think more clearly about the charges made against her. I also recited Master’s poem to her, “An Upright Person” from Hong Yin. All the people in the cell gathered around us, quietly listening. The spirit of the poem reached everyone. Many wanted to learn it by heart, so I engraved it on the wall.

Caring for Arrested Girls

Not long thereafter, three young girls were pushed into the cell. They had been charged with prostitution.

At night they were not given blankets, so I offered mine. I could sleep fully clothed and did not care much about it. The guard on the night shift also saw this, and said, “Did you all see that? Falun Dafa practitioners are really wonderful. It is an excellent example for us to follow.”

One of the detainees even planned to learn more about Falun Dafa from me as soon as she was released. She asked me to keep in touch with her, and left me her home address.

The Girl Selling Counterfeit Currency

One day, a 20-year-old girl was crying miserably as she was brought into the cell. She had been arrested for selling counterfeit currency.

I felt my compassion arise as I went over to her. I said that her behavior was indeed bad, and that it would affect all the people in her life. I then advised her to pull herself together and establish a correct outlook on life.

I explained why being considerate of others takes us much further in life than anything else. She nodded and stopped crying.

Unclogging the Toilet

It was a steamy hot summer day when the toilet got clogged in the cell.

There were only two options to solve the problem. One was that we could pay 30 yuan per person to get a plumber to sort it out; the other was that we could unblock the toilet ourselves. But no one was willing to take the dirty and tiring job.

Without complaint, I offered my help. I wrapped my arms and hands with two large black plastic bags and unclogged it.

In a short while, the toilet was fixed. The guard said loudly, “Once again, we witness how wonderful Falun Dafa people are!”

He looked at everyone in the room. “You should all learn something from them.”

I can’t forget those days. Whenever I did the Falun Dafa exercises, the people in the cell even helped me to block the guards’ view.

Leaving the Detention Center

The day when I was transferred from detention to a forced labor camp, I found myself surrounded by everyone. Yet they were reluctant to say goodbye.

When a guard pulled me out of the cell, a detainee shouted at him. “What’s wrong with Falun Dafa?” she yelled. “You cruel devil! We all know the Chinese Communist Party is brutal and vicious!”

Later, when a relative visited me at the labor camp, she told me that a guard at the detention center had extended her best wishes to me, and said that Falun Dafa is great.
