Thinking of Others First at Home and at Work

February 22, 2017 |   By Falun Gong practitioner Jing Xin from China

(Minghui.org) I started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. I follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in my daily life, both at home and at work.

My mother-in-law is sick and weak. Her husband died many years ago. People nearby knew she had a hot temper. She has three children. However, she just wanted to live with me and have me take care of her.

Before I practiced Falun Gong, we often had conflicts over trivial issues. But after I started practicing Falun Gong, our relationship has become much better.

Once we prepared dumplings at home. As I did not get the vegetable stuffing ready, she became very angry and threw the cutting board and knife onto the floor. She cursed me. I did not say a word, however, but calmly picked up the cutting board and knife. I was not angry.

Gradually she became calm. I talked to her and comforted her, “I understand you had a hard time when you were young. You needed to take care of three children and your mother-in-law. It was difficult for you to manage. You passed over such hardships. You are an understanding mother. I am a Dafa practitioner and think of others first. Please let me know what I am not doing well. I won't be angry, but strive to do well.”

Hearing this, she smiled. My understanding and tolerance solved the conflict. She has a happy life now and has been seldom angry since then. She often recites, “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” She smiled when my neighbors said she was fortunate to have a nice daughter-in-law.

I am a teacher. I will do whatever my supervisor asks me to do. I work hard and do my best to finish assigned tasks. In my school, teachers wish to teach main subjects, as additional income can be made from making up lessons. The school administration makes adjustments for the following semester according to teaching needs. No one likes to change from teaching main subjects to selective courses. The supervisor asked me to take on the task. I agreed quickly. He was touched and said, “I knew you would agree as you have belief in Falun Gong.” She admired my belief.

I treat students like my own children. As a Falun Gong practitioner, I never accept gifts from students or their parents. I am always ready to help students and answer their questions. I don't accept money when some students need to make up lessons in my home. Some parents sent me gifts or shopping cards for appreciation of my additional work. Some have given me cash. I return them promptly. If it’s not convenient to return the items face to face, I will write a letter and return the gift to the parents. I explain, “I am a Falun Gong practitioner. Our Master teaches us to do good deeds, be better people, think of others first, and not to seek compensation.” The parents understand and through these actions get to know the goodness of the practice.
