(Minghui.org) Mr. Zeng Liuming, from Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, was tried on January 19, 2017, for practicing Falun Gong. Only two of his family members were allowed inside during the court session. However, many from the Zijin County 610 Office attended the trial.

Mr. Zeng was led into the court wearing handcuffs. His lawyer Ms. Ge Wenxiu asked the police why they had not adhered to the proper procedures for dealing with the accused during a trial. The policemen then took off Mr. Zeng’s handcuffs.

Many officers were stationed around the court and several dozen police vehicles were parked outside the courthouse.

The trial lasted about two-and-a-half hours. The lawyer’s defense speech was constantly interrupted by the judge and the court bailiffs.

“Many of my family members tried to attend the trial,” Mr. Zeng said to the judge. “However, court officials denied them entry to these court proceedings. Why are you afraid of people listening into the trial proceedings? Yet you claim that you represent justice?”

The judge reprimanded Mr. Zeng and told him that his remarks were not in line with the case.

After Mr. Zeng’s lawyer demanded to know what law her client had violated, the judge demanded that Mr. Zeng provide information about the items that were confiscated from his home. According to the judge, such items were sufficient evidence in the case against him.

Mr. Zeng’s lawyer responded that the officers had ransacked Mr. Zeng’s home, and they had indeed confiscated those items. Still, she countered, there was no evidence that he had committed any crime.

The court bailiff told the lawyer to mind her speech. At that point, the judge announced a recess without giving Mr. Zeng the opportunity to defend himself.

Two court bailiffs pulled Mr. Zeng out of the courtroom. His teenaged daughter was then prevented by a group of policemen from approaching her father.
