Jilin Man Convicted for His Faith Loses Appeal, Secretly Transferred to Prison

April 30, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Jilin Province

(Minghui.org) A Lishu County resident sentenced for his faith has had his appeal turned down. The local authorities transferred him to prison without informing his family as required by law.

Mr. Zhang Jingquan and his wife Ms. Liu Jinru were arrested at home in June 2016 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Mr. Zhang was secretly tried in November 2016 and was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison. He filed an appeal to the Sijing City Intermediate Court in January 2017. The higher court ruled in late March to uphold his conviction without holding a hearing as requested.

The Siping City Detention Center transferred Mr. Zhang to Gongzhuling Prison on April 14, 2017 without informing his family, who didn’t learn of the prison admission until weeks later.

Mr. Zhang, now imprisoned, is extremely concerned about his wife, who became dangerously ill after suffering four ruptured tendons during the violent arrest. The couple hasn’t been able to see each other since the arrest.
