(Minghui.org) Thirteen Nanchong residents were arrested on September 1, 2016 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Ms. Li Qiongzhen, a retired schoolteacher, and her husband were released two days after their arrest. Mr. Tian Runmin, Ms. Li Minxiu, and another practitioner whose name remains to be investigated have also returned home after the brainwashing center where they were held was closed.
Ms. Cao Jurong, Mr. Hu Xuehua, Mr. Jiang Qiguo, and Ms. Ren Xiuli were released in mid-April 2017, after the local procuratorate twice returned their case to police.
Ms. Wang Fengying, Mr. Chen Yixin, and Ms. Cao Shulan were also set free by the local detention center, but the police have since been keeping them incarcerated at a local brainwashing center.
The current status of the remaining practitioner is unknown.
