Ottawa, Canada: Practitioners Introduce Falun Dafa at Two Expos

May 02, 2017 |   By Minghui correspondent Ying Zi

(Minghui.org) Falun Dafa practitioners in Ottawa, Canada, recently participated in two events, where they introduced the meditation system to the attendees. The events were the Healthy Brain and Body Show on April 22-23, 2017, and the Fifty-Five Plus Show on April 21-22.

Both events were held at EY Center, a premium conference center in Ottawa. Drawn by the peaceful and gentle exercises, many attendees stopped by and were interested in learning more. Sarah Roberts, one organizer of the Brain and Body Show, said she was glad to see the smooth exercise movements demonstrated by the Falun Dafa practitioners. “I saw that many people stopped at your booth and asked questions. This is great because the purpose of our activities is helping people improve their health, for both their mind and body.”

Benefiting Society

Jean Louis Dubé, president of a non-profit organization with nearly 600 members, said he had heard about Falun Dafa many years before at the University of Ottawa. He said, “One practitioner gave an introduction of Falun Dafa. I remember it because of the core principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.” He said he feels that many conflicts that arise in society are rooted in moral issues, and that if more people could calm down for meditation and inner peace, the world would be a better place. He said he would like to introduce Falun Dafa to people in his organization.

Idrees Ali, a regional manager of an IT company, agreed, saying, “When each of us improves ourselves, we can benefit society more.” Having practiced both Taekwondo and Karate, he said that Faun Dafa provided a systematic way for a person to improve. “The values of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance will help individuals, groups, or nations head in a better direction. They are something we should promote, not suppress like what happened [in China].”

He encouraged practitioners to take any opportunities to reach more people since the information received by the Canadian government would be provided to the Chinese government. “Please keep it up,” he added, “The suppression [in China] will change in the end.”

Spiritual Elements

Attendees learn the exercises during the Healthy Brain and Body Show.

Randy Wilson is a renowned painting artist, and he has experience in both Tai Chi and yoga. Upon seeing the practitioners doing the exercise demonstration, he was deeply impressed, “I could see energy circulating in the body. It’s amazing.”

He said many ancient practices had rich spiritual elements. Unfortunately, they were largely lost in the past. He remarked, “It is great to see Falun Dafa here. It is unique and I will find out more about it.”

Janet Conner, who works for the federal government, talked with practitioners for a long time. Having seen the Tian Guo Marching Band perform previously, she was glad to meet practitioners again. She commented, “I can see the relaxation and inner peace here. And I hope to have something like this in my life.”

Not Missing the Opportunity

Brent Royal, a student in political science, met practitioners twice at both the Healthy Brain and Body Show and the Fifty-Five Plus Show. He said, “The movements look graceful and wonderful. Plus the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Who would disagree with something like this?”

Brent Royal said he had met Falun Dafa practitioners previously and was glad to seem them again.

Royal said he knew about Falun Dafa and the persecution in China, saying, “When I went to Wellington Street in Ottawa last summer, I saw a man in a yellow jacket sitting on a lawn near Parliament Hill meditating by himself. Next to him was a large banner reading, 'Falun Dafa is great'.” Touched by scene, he took a picture of this and posted it on Facebook. “I know if this happens in China, this man might lose his life. I am proud because my country supports him and his belief,” said Royal.

People learn about Falun Dafa at the Fifty-Five Plus Show on April 21-22, 2017.

Li Xun, president of the Canadian Falun Dafa Association, said this year marks the 25th anniversary since Falun Dafa was introduced to the public,“In the past few days, thousands of people from both events have seen us doing exercises. Many were interested in the health benefits or spiritual enlightening, and some began to learn the excises immediately.”

“Obviously, people do not want to miss something like this,” he added.
