Once Imprisoned for 5 Years, Woman Arrested Again for Her Faith

July 03, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shaanxi Province

(Minghui.org) A resident in Hanzhong City was arrested on June 22, 2017 for talking to people about the Chinese communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

Ms. Wu Yali remains at Hantai District Detention Center.

This is not the first time the 56-year-old woman has been targeted for her faith. Ms. Wu once detailed her ordeal in a criminal complaint she filed in June 2015 against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for initiating the persecution of Falun Gong.

Ms. Wu wrote that she and her family have lived in fear ever since the persecution began in 1999. Simply for upholding her faith, she was arrested multiple times, resulting in a 2-year forced-labor term and a 5-year prison term. When she was not in detention, she was put under house arrest. Unable to bear the pressure, her husband even left home for an extended period of time.

Ms. Wu concluded in the criminal complaint that the persecution of Falun Gong not only brought irreparable damage to her body, but also caused enormous emotional pain to her and her family.

Relentless Abuse Since February 2000

Ms. Wu was brutally beaten after she was arrested in February 2000 for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing. Her ribs were broken as a result, and she wasn’t released until 30 days later. Her family was forced to pay more than 13,000 yuan.

Police took Ms. Wu back into custody five months later, detaining her for another 30 days. It was extremely hot during the period of her detention, and she contracted scabies. Her family was again forced to pay a huge fine, this time totaling 32,000 yuan. Her employer fired her soon afterwards.

In order to avoid further arrests, Ms. Wu was forced to live away from home for more than half a year in 2002.

She was arrested at her home in 2005 and given two years of forced labor. She was later allowed to serve her term outside of labor camp after she developed high blood pressure symptoms.

When Ms. Wu was arrested again in October 2007 and taken to a brainwashing center, the police also forced her husband to accompany her for the entire 13-day detention. Her husband was traumatized by the experience.

Ms. Wu was arrested for a fifth time on May 7, 2008 and soon sentenced to 5 years in prison. The judge, however, never gave her the verdict. She was brutally tortured during her detention, and her leg was severely injured as a result. Her health also quickly deteriorated, and she suffered from high blood pressure and kidney stones.
