(Minghui.org) The Jiangyang District Court in Luzhou City tried Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Luo Shuizhen, 62, in the Naxi Detention Center on September 20, 2016. Her lawyer was barred from attending the trial.

She was eventually sentenced to a four-year prison term on March 29, 2017, which she appealed.

The Luzhou Intermediate Court organized the appeals hearing for the morning of August 4, 2017.

The court informed Ms. Luo’s family of the hearing date and asked if she had hired an attorney. Ms. Luo’s family asked if they could attend, but they were refused permission by the court.

Officers from the Luzhou Political and Legal Affairs Committee and the Luzhou Domestic Security Division stood with many uniformed and plainclothes officers outside the court on the day of the hearing. They stopped anyone who appeared to be heading to the court.

Ms. Luo's husband was blocked from entering. He talked with a chief of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee and asked to enter the courtroom. The chief told him that he was not allowed in without the court's permission.

Ms. Luo's husband politely asked the chief to look at the argument statements that he had written for his wife. He handed them along with legal references to the chief and two other officers.
