(Minghui.org) There is a traditional Chinese fairy tale. A divine being gave his disciple a wooden drill, and asked him to drill a hole through a 5-foot-thick rock.

“When you drill through, you will reach consummation,” the master said. The disciple believed his master, and spent 40 years on the task. Finally, he succeeded.

Drilling a hole through a 5-foot-thick rock with a wooden drill sounds inconceivable and impossible. But the disciple made it with solid belief in his master.

Many traditional cultivation stories emphasize one thing: solid belief.

As a cultivator, I felt ashamed when comparing myself with the disciple in that story. Although I know and I say that I need to trust Master, I cannot follow Master's teachings upon encountering difficulties in daily life, because I am easily controlled by my notions and attachments. This is particularly true when I clarify the truth. I have strong fear.

When I think about the fear, I find that the fundamental source of the fear is that I don't have solid belief in Master and Dafa.

Master said the following words:

“Sending righteous thoughts is to utilize divine powers,” (“Teaching the Fa at the 2003 Lantern Festival”)

“Dafa Disciples’ Righteous Thoughts are Powerful” (“Dafa Disciples’ Righteous Thoughts are Powerful” in Essentials for Further Advancement II)

“. . . Dafa disciples cultivate among ordinary people—shouldering the responsibility of saving sentient beings . . .” (“Fa Teaching on World Falun Dafa Day”)

“My fashen will protect you until you are able to protect yourself.” (Zhuan Falun)

If we really have solid belief in Master, what would we be afraid of?

Moreover, we are lucky compared to the disciple in that story. He was given an impossible mission, and he spent 40 years on it. But today's Dafa disciples are learning the Fa taught by Master. There is no precedent. As long as one wants to cultivate, he or she has access to the Fa at any time and in any place. This is the unseen benevolence of Master, who opens the door so widely that anybody can enter.

Unfortunately, many people are lost in the material world and are blocked by their notions, so they miss this precious opportunity to cultivate. If today's people had a master like the one in that story they would not only refuse to follow, but would also curse the master for deceiving them, because today's people only believe in what they can see. This notion stems from modern science and atheism, which interfere with people's minds so that it is all the more difficult to become enlightened.
