1. [Taiyuan, Shanxi Province] Mr. Hou Lijun’s Life Is in Danger
Mr. Hou Lijun was arrested on April 25, 2023. He was later sentenced to ten years in prison by the Wanbolin District Court and was taken to the Qi County Men’s Prison. He appealed but the original verdict was upheld by the Taiyuan City Intermediate Court.
Mr. Hou has been on a hunger strike for 58 days. He lost over 25 kg and is in critical condition.
2. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Liang Shuzhi Sentenced to Three Years in Prison
Ms. Liang Shuzhi, 86, was sentenced to three years in prison. She appealed to the Shenyang City Intermediate Court and received a notice on May 30, 2023, that the original verdict was upheld. Ms. Liang was phoned on June 21, 2023, and told to provide an application that her sentence would be executed outside prison.
3. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Zhou Yafen Suffers Mental Collapse in Prison
Ms. Zhou Yafen, 59, was arrested by officers from the Liuying Road Police Station in Kuancheng District at the end of August 2022. She was later sentenced to three years in prison. She was transferred from a detention center to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison on April 29, 2023. Four days later, her family was told that she was diagnosed with a mental illness.
Ms. Zhou was very healthy and weighed about 75 kg before she was arrested. Now, she weighs only 35 to 40 kg. She is a skeleton and has suffered a mental collapse.
4. [Hailin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Fu Zhaocui’s Family Pressured to Pay Hospital Bill
Ms. Fu Zhaocui was arrested by police officers and court guards on June 5, 2023. She was detained for two weeks in the No. 2 Affiliated Hospital of Mudanjiang Medical University. Her family was informed on June 20, 2023, that they needed to go to the hospital and pay the bill.
5. [Fuxin City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Bao Yuqin Detained
Ms. Bao Yuqin has been detained in the Chengnan Detention Center since early June 2023.
6. [Kuancheng County, Hebei Province] Mr. Zheng Guocheng Arrested and Detained
Mr. Zheng Guocheng was reported to the police for talking about Falun Gong on May 15, 2023. The officers including Li Lin, head of the Kuancheng County Domestic Security Division, and Xu Xuesong, deputy of the division, ransacked his home and confiscated his Falun Gong books, the photo of Falun Gong’s founder, and other personal belongings. Mr. Zheng was taken to the Kuancheng County Detention Center and was placed under a 14-day detention. He was released on the afternoon of June 22, 2023, because of his health.
7. [Guiyang City, Guizhou Province] Ms. Zhou Guoqing Arrested and Detained
Ms. Zhou Guoqing was arrested at her home by officers from the Gongjiazhai Police Station on May 19, 2023. Her home was ransacked. The police confiscated two Falun Gong books, four media players, and 102 yuan in paper bills imprinted with information about Falun Gong. Ms. Zhou was later held for 15 days in the Sanjiang Detention Center.
8. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Mr. Jiang Chunlin Arrested
Mr. Jiang Chunlin lives in Beicun Community in Laoshan District. He was arrested at his son’s restaurant on the morning of May 9, 2023. The police then went to ransack his home. Mr. Jiang’s wife was paralyzed and bedridden for six years and unable to speak. The police threatened her. Ten days after Mr. Jiang was arrested, his wife passed away. His son tried to apply for bail for him but his request was refused.
